SaneBox Review 2026: Automatic Email Sorting for Any Inbox
SaneBox sorts incoming email by importance and keeps newsletters, notifications and low-priority mail out of your inbox – without making you switch email clients. We cover features, pricing, privacy and our assessment.
What Is SaneBox?
SaneBox is an email service from US provider SaneBox, Inc. that pre-sorts your existing mailbox directly on the mail server. Important messages stay in your inbox, while everything else is moved automatically into dedicated folders such as SaneLater or SaneNews.
The key difference from many newer AI email tools: SaneBox is not a new email client and does not write replies. You keep working in Outlook, Apple Mail, Gmail or your phone’s mail app, while SaneBox learns in the background which senders matter to you.
Core Features of SaneBox
- Email Organize: Sorts incoming mail by importance and moves low-priority messages into the SaneLater folder, which you check whenever it suits you.
- Daily Digest: Summarises the filtered messages in a regular overview so nothing slips through unnoticed.
- Email Deep Clean: Helps you tidy up old mailboxes by archiving or deleting messages grouped by sender.
- SaneNoReplies and Reminders: Show sent emails that never got a reply and remind you of open threads at a time you choose.
- SaneBlackHole: Drag a sender into this folder once and their messages will no longer reach your inbox.
- SaneScreener, SaneCC and SaneNews: Separate mail from new senders, CC-only messages and newsletters from your main inbox.
- SaneDoNotDisturb and Custom Snooze: Pause delivery for focused work or push emails to a later point in time.
- Filters and apps: Subject, domain and advanced filters complement the automatic sorting, and there are apps for iOS and Android.
Advantages of SaneBox
- No need to switch email clients – according to the provider, SaneBox works with all common email clients.
- Sorting runs on the mail server, so it applies to your computer, tablet and phone at the same time.
- You train SaneBox simply by moving messages between folders, without maintaining rules by hand.
- Follow-up tracking and reminders stop unanswered requests from getting lost in day-to-day work.
Who Should Use SaneBox?
SaneBox is aimed at anyone who receives a lot of email every day and wants to keep their familiar email client.
Freelancers and self-employed professionals with one main inbox often drown in newsletters, tool notifications and promotions between genuine client requests. SaneBox separates the two reliably, and the Snack plan is enough for a single inbox with a few extra features.
Professionals with separate work and personal inboxes benefit from both accounts being sorted by the same patterns. The Lunch plan covers two inboxes and allows a wider choice of features per account.
Executives and power users with several addresses need follow-up tracking, reminders and screening of new senders all at once. The Dinner plan, with four inboxes and every feature, is built for exactly that.
Less suitable for anyone who wants AI reply drafts or summaries of individual emails, for organisations that may not grant a US service access to their mailboxes, and for users with low email volume anyway.

Our SaneBox Review
| Category | Weight | Score | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|
| Productivity gain / time saved | 25 % | 8.5/10 | Server-side pre-sorting keeps newsletters, notifications and low-priority mail out of your inbox without switching email clients. The provider’s claim of more than 100 hours saved per year has not been independently verified. |
| AI quality | 20 % | 7.5/10 | SaneBox learns from your behaviour which senders matter; generative features such as summaries or reply drafts are missing. During the learning phase, misclassifications can occur, which you correct by moving messages. |
| Automation capabilities | 15 % | 8.0/10 | Follow-up tracking, reminders, snooze, BlackHole, Screener and subject or domain filters cover the typical routine tasks in an inbox; the full range is only available on the Dinner plan. |
| Integrations | 10 % | 7.5/10 | According to the provider, SaneBox works with all common email clients; beyond the email provider, there are hardly any native connections to other tools. |
| Ease of use | 10 % | 8.0/10 | Everything runs via folders in your usual email client, so there is no new interface to learn. The web dashboard for settings is functional but looks dated. |
| Feature set | 5 % | 7.5/10 | Snack and Lunch noticeably limit the number of selectable features; every feature is only included in the most expensive plan. |
| Reliability | 5 % | 8.0/10 | Because sorting runs on the mail server, it works independently of your devices and even when your email client is closed; independent uptime data is not available. |
| Privacy & security | 5 % | 5.5/10 | US provider with access to your entire mailbox; according to the provider, sorting is based mainly on header and metadata. These points should generally be viewed more critically within the EU than outside the EU. |
| Value for money | 5 % | 6.5/10 | Relatively expensive on monthly billing; annual or two-year terms cut the cost considerably, but tie you in for longer. The free trial is short at seven days. |
| Overall score | 100 % | 7.8/10 | A mature, client-independent tool against email overload, but not a generative AI assistant; privacy and the pricing structure are its weak spots. |
Strengths
- Works with all common email providers and clients
- Learns from how you move messages, minimal setup effort
- Follow-up tracking, reminders and BlackHole for unwanted senders
- Server-side sorting applies across all your devices at once
Weaknesses
- No generative AI features such as summaries or reply drafts
- US provider with access to your entire mailbox, a privacy concern from an EU perspective
- Snack and Lunch limit selectable features, full feature set only on the most expensive plan
- No hands-on test by delavo.de yet
Our Experience with SaneBox
We have not yet carried out our own hands-on test with a trial account for this review. Our assessment is based on SaneBox’s official information on features, plans and privacy. A hands-on test with screenshots is planned for a future update of this page.
Pricing in Detail
Snack from approx. $5.42/month (annual billing) is the entry point for a single inbox, but with only two selectable features it is meant for simpler needs. Lunch from $15.99/month is the plan the provider highlights and, for most users, the more sensible balance between feature choice and cost.
If you can plan ahead, annual billing saves you a considerable amount compared with paying monthly. The two-year plan SaneBox also offers is cheaper still – it is worth it mainly if you have already made SaneBox a fixed part of your workflow during the trial, as it commits you for two years.
Key Alternatives
| Tool | Advantage over SaneBox | Disadvantage compared with SaneBox | When it makes more sense |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fyxer | Generative reply drafts in your own writing style plus meeting notes | Gmail and Outlook only, no folder approach for any email client | When you want to answer emails faster, not just sort them |
| Superhuman | Very fast, keyboard-driven email client with AI features | Requires switching your email client | When you are prepared to change your email client entirely |
| Clean Email | Strong focus on bulk clean-up and unsubscribing from newsletters | Less developed learning-based sorting of new mail | When you mainly need to clear out an overflowing old mailbox |
ROI Calculation: When Does SaneBox Pay Off?
Simplified example, without guarantee: If you spend around 15 minutes per working day sorting out unimportant email, that adds up to roughly 5 hours a month. What that time is worth depends on your own hourly rate; the plan price is shown in the pricing table above. How much time SaneBox actually saves depends on your email volume and has not been verified in our own test.
SaneBox or Fyxer: Which Tool When?
SaneBox focuses on pre-sorting your inbox and works with practically any email client. Fyxer goes further with reply drafts, meeting notes and scheduling, but requires Gmail or Outlook.
| Tool | Focus | Ideal for | Less suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|
| SaneBox | Automatic inbox pre-sorting | Anyone who wants to keep their email client and lighten their inbox | Anyone who needs AI reply drafts or meeting notes |
| Fyxer | Email, calendar and meetings | Anyone who wants to automate replies and meeting follow-ups | Anyone using a mailbox other than Gmail or Outlook |
Our Verdict on SaneBox
SaneBox is a mature tool for anyone struggling with email overload who does not want to give up their familiar email client. Learning-based pre-sorting, follow-up tracking and reminders noticeably lighten the inbox, without you having to maintain rules by hand.
If you expect generative AI features, SaneBox is not the right choice. From an EU perspective, you should also check whether you may, and want to, give a US service access to your mailbox.
Privacy at SaneBox
To sort your mail, SaneBox needs access to your entire mailbox. According to the provider, it mainly analyses the header and metadata of messages, not their content.
The service is operated by the US company SaneBox, Inc. For users within the EU, data location, disclosure to third parties and data processing should generally be examined more critically than outside the EU – before using it with business mailboxes, take a close look at the provider’s current privacy policy.
