Agent Opus Review: We Put the AI Video Agent Through a Real Test
Agent Opus promises a finished brand video from a single text prompt. We opened our own account and went from idea to finished clip ourselves – watermark, waiting time, and one genuine technical glitch included.
What is Agent Opus?
Agent Opus is an AI video agent by Opusclip Inc. that turns a short description, a finished script, a song, or a reference video into a complete short-form video. It handles voiceover, matching visuals, animated captions, and background music in a single run.
Unlike traditional video editors, Agent Opus works conversationally: before generating anything, it asks targeted questions about audience, tone, and visual direction, then builds a video brief before script, voiceover, and visuals are created. The core product is complemented by a separate toolkit called “Opus Labs” (including Motion Studio for pure motion-graphics clips) and its own MCP server that lets you generate videos directly from Claude, Cursor, or Codex.
Agent Opus core features
- Script to video: Turns an idea or a finished script into voiceover, visuals, and music automatically.
- Song to video: Turns an uploaded song into a matching music video in a style of your choice.
- Audio to video / Reference to video (Beta): Uses your own voice recording or a reference video (including a YouTube/TikTok link) as the basis for a new video.
- Assets to ads: Turns your own product images into an animated ad clip.
- Voice library with voice cloning: Choose from preset voices by use case and pace, or clone your own voice.
- Style presets: Fixed visual styles such as Claymation, Low-Poly Retro, Pen&Ink, or Digital Chalk, plus an automatic “Auto” style.
- Automatic animated captions in a karaoke-style layout, synced to speech pace.
- AgentOpus MCP: Connects to Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, and other MCP-capable environments to generate video straight from chat.
Advantages of Agent Opus
The biggest difference from classic AI video tools is the guided, conversational flow: instead of facing a blank editor, Agent Opus asks concrete questions and arrives at a fitting script before any compute time is spent on the actual video generation. That cuts down on failed attempts, especially for first-time users.
The range of input types – text, song, voice recording, reference video, or product images – covers far more use cases than a plain text-to-video generator. For teams already working in Claude or Cursor, the dedicated MCP server adds a way to trigger videos without ever opening the web app.
Who is Agent Opus for?
Agent Opus is built for anyone who regularly needs short social or promo videos but doesn’t have the time or budget for classic video production.
Social media and content teams benefit from the song-to-video and script-to-video modes to keep producing new short clips without shooting original footage.
Small brands and solo founders can turn existing product photos into animated ad clips with “Assets to ads” instead of hiring an agency.
Developer teams already using Claude or Cursor get extra value from the AgentOpus MCP server to plug video generation into existing automations.
Agent Opus is less suited for users who need ready-made German voice presets without cloning their own voice – the default voice library only showed English (US/UK) voices in our test. Anyone who needs more than one 30-second video per month will also hit the Free plan’s credit limit quickly.

Our rating of Agent Opus
| Category | Weight | Score | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Output quality | 30% | 7.5/10 | The finished 30-second video was well cut and consistently voiced throughout, though one scene showed unreadable text on a dashboard mockup. |
| AI quality / naturalness | 20% | 8.0/10 | The voiceover sounded natural and well-paced, and the automatic captions stayed in sync with speech tempo. |
| Feature range | 15% | 8.5/10 | Script-, song-, audio- and reference-to-video, assets-to-ads, Motion Studio, voice cloning and MCP integration cover a wide range of use cases. |
| Usability & workflow | 10% | 7.0/10 | The conversational flow is intuitive, but we hit one loading error in the preview player during testing that only cleared after a page reload. |
| Editing & control options | 10% | 7.5/10 | Chat-based editing (“What would you like to change?”) and style remixing worked reliably. |
| Languages & localization | 5% | 6.0/10 | The default library has no German voice presets, but voice cloning lets you add any voice yourself – including German – which offsets the gap. |
| Integrations & export | 5% | 7.0/10 | The MCP server for Claude/Cursor/Codex is a genuine differentiator; 4K export costs additional credits. |
| Value for money | 5% | 7.0/10 | The Free plan covers one full test video per month; the Pro tier sits in line with the rest of the market for regular use. |
| Overall score | 100% | 7.6/10 | A solid, feature-rich tool that compensates well for the missing German voice presets via cloning, with a couple of minor technical hiccups. |
| Quality of German voices/captions | Tool-specific – not part of overall score | 4.5/10 | Without cloning your own voice, only English presets are currently available. |

Our hands-on experience with Agent Opus
For this test, we set up our own free Agent Opus account and created a 30-second video for a fictional Delavo promo clip – without any real purchase or upgrade.
Step 1: Onboarding and initial setup
Right after the first login, Agent Opus runs a short questionnaire about your role, video type, and planned distribution channel. Only after that does actual script generation begin – a detail many pure editor tools skip.

Step 2: From idea to script
After a short topic description, Agent Opus automatically builds a video brief covering audience, tone, and key points before generating the script and voiceover. Progress is shown in a clear pipeline (Summary, Script, Voiceover, Video).

Step 3: Script ready – and the first upsell already
As soon as the script is ready, Agent Opus immediately surfaces a prompt for a higher-tier model variant. The script itself, though, could be carried straight into video generation at no extra cost.

Step 4: Voiceover ready, video rendering
The voiceover was ready within seconds. For the actual video, the tool quoted a typical wait of 10 to 20 minutes – in our test it did indeed take about that long.

Step 5: The finished video in a review-show style
In the chosen “Software Showcase” style, the finished video showed an AI presenter in front of abstract dashboard graphics, plus automatic, karaoke-style animated captions. Visuals and voiceover stayed cleanly in sync.

Step 6: Weak point in testing – unreadable text in a mockup
In one scene featuring a dashboard mockup, the video displayed garbled, unreadable text – a known issue with current AI video generators. Fittingly, Agent Opus immediately offered an upgrade pitched around “cleaner on-screen text,” which indirectly confirms the weak point.

Step 7: Free-plan downloads come with a watermark
At download, Agent Opus first offers a watermark-free version in exchange for an upgrade. On the Free plan, you can alternatively download the video for free with a visible watermark – a limitation common across free tiers in this market.

Step 8: Video ending and brand end card
At the end, the video automatically displays an end card with the brand name we entered – cleanly readable in our test and consistent with the rest of the clip’s look.

Beyond the steps above, we also looked at several other parts of Agent Opus – from the voice and style libraries to the separate Motion Studio tool:

Value for money in detail
The Free plan covers exactly one 30-second video per month in Standard quality – enough to try Agent Opus risk-free, but quickly limiting for regular use. The entry-level Pro tier targets creators producing videos multiple times a month who want to skip watermarks and get a voice-clone slot of their own.
The top-tier Max plan makes the most sense for teams with high video volume and a need for several brand, avatar, and voice-clone slots at once. 4K exports cost additional credits regardless of the plan you’re on.
The main alternatives
| Tool | Advantage over Agent Opus | Drawback vs. Agent Opus | Better choice when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Synthesia | Focused on realistic human avatars with lip-sync | No conversational script workflow, no MCP server | For training or corporate videos built around a talking avatar |
| InVideo AI | Larger stock footage library for classic explainer videos | Less stylistic range for purely AI-generated scenes | When videos should rely heavily on real stock material rather than AI-generated visuals |
| Pictory | More specialized in turning long-form content (blog posts, webinars) into short clips | No dedicated song-to-video or assets-to-ads mode | When you already have extensive text or video content as source material |
Our verdict on Agent Opus
Agent Opus impresses with a well-thought-out conversational workflow and an unusually broad feature set for a single tool – from script- to song- to reference-video creation. Video and voice quality were solid throughout our test, though one scene with unreadable on-screen text shows that fine AI-generated details still have their limits.
For German-language projects, it’s worth checking the voice library first: ready-made German presets are missing, but cloning your own voice offsets that well. If you’re already planning to clone a voice, or you mainly produce English-language content, Agent Opus gives you a feature-rich tool you can try risk-free on the Free plan.
