Clico Review 2026: The AI Assistant for Chrome, Mac and the Web, Tested
Clico is an AI assistant that works directly in Chrome, on Mac and in the browser – with chat, image generation and eight specialised personas for different tasks. We tested Clico with our own Free-plan account: from sign-up through chat to running several personas in practice. This review shows how well it holds up day to day, and where its limits are.

What Is Clico?
Clico is an AI assistant that works directly in your browser, on your Mac and on the web – as a Chrome extension, a desktop app and a standalone web interface, all under one account. Instead of switching between several separate AI tools, Clico answers, researches and creates content right where you’re already working.
At its core is a chat with access to multiple AI models (in our test, among others “GPT-5.6 Luna”), paired with a persona system: eight predefined expert roles, such as Deep Research Analyst or Technical Architecture Master, that shift the tone, focus and approach of the answers without you having to do any prompt engineering yourself.
Core Features of Clico
The feature set covers chat, research, image generation and tailored response styles in a single tool.
- Chat with web research: Answers questions directly in chat, and, when needed, runs independent, multi-step web research complete with cited sources.
- Image generation in chat: Creates images straight from a text prompt in the same chat window, with no separate tool required.
- Personas (“Masters”): Eight predefined expert roles – including Deep Research Analyst, Product Strategy Master, Marketing Strategy Master, Technical Architecture Master and TikTok Marketing Strategist – that change the focus and approach of the answers.
- Creator voice personas: Additional style personas modelled on well-known personalities for social content, kept separate from the expert Masters.
- Multi-surface access: One account for the Chrome extension, the Mac desktop app and the web interface.
- Custom instructions: Your own persistent behaviour rules as an alternative or addition to the built-in personas.
Advantages of Clico
The biggest practical advantage is the range of usable “voices” within a single tool: instead of developing a new prompting style for every task, you switch persona and get noticeably different results – from source-backed web research to a short social media script.
The Free plan is unusually generous: 200 credits a month with no credit card required were enough in our test for several complete chat, research and image-generation requests, leaving 94% of the balance remaining once all tests were done.
Because Clico runs on Chrome, Mac and the web at the same time, getting started is easy – one account covers all three entry points, wherever you happen to be working.
Who Should Use Clico?
Clico is best suited to people who research, write or produce social content in the browser on a regular basis and don’t want to keep several separate AI tools open to do it.
Content creators and social media teams benefit from expert personas such as the TikTok Marketing Strategist, which deliver finished, audience-ready scripts without any prompt engineering of their own.
Research-heavy users – in marketing, product development or consulting, for example – rely on the Deep Research Analyst, which independently searches multiple sources, reads them and backs up its answers with citations.
Technically minded users use the Technical Architecture Master for quick structural website or system checks, such as sitemap gaps or inconsistent navigation.
Less suitable for users who need a dedicated automation platform with trigger chains, for purely offline work with no browser or account connection, and for teams that specifically require deep integrations with existing enterprise software.

In our own test account (Free plan), 94% of the 200 monthly credits were still left after a chat reply, an image generation and four complete persona requests – for occasional use, the Free plan is noticeably more generous than many comparable AI tools.
Our Clico Review
Clico impresses in testing mainly through its persona system and generally high answer quality, but shows clear limits when it comes to genuine workflow automation. This assessment is based on our own hands-on test with a Free-plan account, without an actual purchase or upgrade to Pro or Max. It is scored against Delavo’s “AI Productivity & Automation” cluster.
Overall Rating
| Category | Weight | Score | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|
| Productivity gain / time saved | 25% | 7.5/10 | The persona system noticeably cuts down on your own prompt engineering; chat replies took a few seconds in testing, multi-step research around 20–30 seconds. |
| AI quality | 20% | 8.0/10 | The four personas tested delivered coherent, clearly distinguishable results – from a 46-source research report to an audience-ready TikTok script. |
| Automation capabilities | 15% | 6.0/10 | Personas are predefined system prompts; testing showed no visible trigger or workflow chains comparable to dedicated automation tools. |
| Integrations | 10% | 6.0/10 | Chrome extension, Mac app and web interface under one account; no connection to third-party systems such as CRM or document tools was visible in testing. |
| Usability | 10% | 8.0/10 | Switching personas and using chat were straightforward in testing; the only minor friction was an input field that occasionally needed a deliberate click rather than direct typing. |
| Feature set | 5% | 7.0/10 | Chat, image generation, eight expert personas plus separate creator voice personas and custom instructions. |
| Reliability | 5% | 7.5/10 | Every test step completed successfully; image generation briefly showed a “still processing” status before the result appeared after about 25 seconds. |
| Privacy & security | 5% | 6.0/10 | Not examined in depth during testing; the browser extension has access to page content by design, which should be reviewed separately before production use. |
| Value for money | 5% | 7.0/10 | The card-free Free plan with 200 credits/month is generous; Pro/Max pricing sits within the usual range for AI subscriptions in US dollars. |
| Overall score | 100% | 7.2/10 | A versatile, high-quality chat and research assistant with noticeable limits when it comes to genuine automation. |
| ROI calculation / When is it worth it? | Tool-specific – not part of the overall score | 7.0/10 | Time savings are noticeable in testing but depend heavily on individual usage patterns – see the worked example further down. |
Note: The score and weighting are an editorial proposal following the Delavo cluster rating model and will be given final sign-off by our editorial team before publication.
Strengths
- A persona system with eight clearly distinct expert “Masters” instead of a single generic chat style.
- A card-free Free plan with 200 credits/month for a complete workflow test.
- Web research with genuinely cited sources – up to 46 sources for a single request in our test.
- One account for the Chrome extension, the Mac desktop app and the web interface.
- Image generation directly in the same chat window, with no need to switch tools.
Weaknesses
- No visible automation or trigger chains as found in dedicated workflow tools – personas are predefined system prompts, not automation in the strict sense.
- No visible integrations with third-party systems such as CRM, project management or document tools.
- Image generation briefly showed a “still processing” intermediate status in testing – around 25 seconds’ wait for the finished result.
- Privacy aspects of the browser extension’s access (to page content) were not examined in depth during testing.
Our Experience with Clico
For this review, we set up our own Clico account on the Free plan and tested chat, image generation and four different expert personas in practical use – without an actual purchase or upgrade to Pro or Max. The steps below show what Clico actually feels like to use day to day.
Step 1: First Login and Account Menu
After sign-up, the account menu immediately shows the active plan (“Free plan”) along with direct access to billing, guides and account management. Getting from onboarding to a working account took just a few clicks in testing.

Step 2: Plan and Credit Overview
The billing page transparently shows the active plan, the monthly credit allowance (200 credits) and current usage as a progress bar. Before running the actual tests, 100% of the monthly credits were available, with no credit card on file.

Step 3: Chat in Everyday Use
A simple question about what Clico is for gets answered by chat within a few seconds, with an accurate, easy-to-read summary. For quick everyday questions, Clico delivers usable results without detours.

Step 4: Image Generation Directly in Chat
A text prompt for a minimalist icon of a browser window with an AI symbol produced a cleanly executed result after about 25 seconds – including a brief “still processing” notice along the way. A separate image-generation tool isn’t needed for simple use cases like this.

Step 5: Personas – Clico’s Customisable Expert Roles
The persona gallery lists eight expert “Masters” – including Deep Research Analyst, Marketing Strategy Master and Technical Architecture Master – plus separate creator voice personas modelled on well-known personalities for social content. Personas are activated through the instructions settings and then apply to all following chats.

Step 6: Persona in Action – TikTok Marketing Strategist
With the TikTok Marketing persona activated, Clico produced a finished 20-second video script on request, complete with hook, body and call-to-action – a noticeably different tone and format from the standard chat response in Step 3.

Step 7: Persona in Action – Technical Architecture Master
The technical persona ran an independent crawl of a website on request (including sitemap, robots.txt and hub pages) and returned concrete, source-backed technical findings instead of generic statements – a clearly different mode from the creative or research-focused personas.

Pricing in Detail
Compared with running several specialised single-purpose tools – a separate research tool, a separate image generator, a separate browser add-on – Clico bundles multiple functions into one account and one price. The card-free Free plan with 200 credits/month is a genuine advantage over providers that ask for a credit card before you can even try the product.
The annual Pro and Max plans bring a roughly 20% discount over paying monthly, which is worth factoring in if you expect to use Clico regularly rather than just occasionally.
Key Alternatives
| Tool | Advantage over Clico | Disadvantage vs. Clico | Better choice when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sider AI | Choice of several major language models side by side, a Chrome extension established for years | No Mac desktop app comparable to Clico’s, no persona system with expert Masters | When you specifically want to compare different AI model providers |
| Monica AI | Broad set of extra features (including translation, PDF analysis) directly in the extension | No role system comparable to Clico’s Masters for subject-specific response styles | When your focus is document- and PDF-heavy everyday tasks |
Note: The details on Sider AI and Monica AI are based on publicly available product descriptions and were not re-verified in depth for this test. Before comparing, it’s worth checking each provider’s current website.
ROI Calculation: When Does Clico Pay Off?
Clico’s core benefit is time saved on recurring browser tasks: instead of switching tools for a quick lookup, a summary or a social media post, the whole workflow stays in the same window.
Worked example (simplified, no guarantee): if an employee saves an average of 15 minutes a day on quick research and boilerplate text with Clico, that works out to roughly $8.75 in time saved per day at an internal hourly rate of $35, or about $175 a month (20 working days) – enough, on paper, to already cover the cost of the Pro plan ($16–$19.90/month).
Clico pays off most clearly for users who research, write or need short social assets in the browser several times a day – for occasional, one-off use, the card-free Free plan remains the more sensible choice.
Our Verdict on Clico
Clico impresses in testing mainly through its persona system: eight expert “Master” roles deliver noticeably different, use-case-appropriate results – from source-backed web research to a finished social media script. Combined with a card-free Free plan offering 200 credits a month, getting started is unusually low-risk.
Anyone looking for dedicated workflow automation with trigger chains, or deep integrations with existing business software, needs to factor in these limitations – within the scope we tested, Clico remains primarily a versatile chat and research assistant, not an automation tool in the strict sense.
Rating: Recommended for users looking for a versatile AI assistant directly in the browser, on Mac or on the web who will benefit from subject-specific personas – Second choice for teams that primarily need workflow automation with trigger chains.

Frequently Asked Questions about Clico
What exactly is Clico?
Clico is an AI assistant that runs as a Chrome extension, a Mac desktop app and a web interface under one account. At its core is a chat with web research and image generation, complemented by eight expert personas that change the tone and approach of the answers.
How much does Clico cost?
Clico offers the Free, Pro and Max plans at fixed monthly prices in US dollars; current amounts are listed in the pricing table further up this page. Pro and Max can also be paid annually at a discount.
Do I need a credit card for the Free plan?
No. The Free plan with 200 credits a month can be used in full in testing without providing a credit card.
What are Clico’s personas (“Masters”)?
Personas are eight predefined expert roles – such as Deep Research Analyst, Marketing Strategy Master or Technical Architecture Master – that specifically change the focus, tone and approach of chat responses. They’re activated through the instructions settings and then apply to all following chats.
Can Clico create images in chat too?
Yes, images can be generated directly from a text prompt in the same chat window. In testing, generating a simple icon took about 25 seconds.
Which platforms does Clico run on?
Clico is available as a Chrome extension, as a desktop app for Mac and as a web interface, all usable under the same account.
How many credits does a typical request use?
In our own test, a chat reply, an image generation and four complete persona requests (including one multi-step web research task) together used around 6% of the monthly Free-plan allowance of 200 credits.
Is Clico suitable for automated workflows?
Only to a limited extent. Personas deliver predefined, subject-focused response styles, but testing showed no visible trigger or automation chains comparable to dedicated workflow tools.
What alternatives are there to Clico?
Well-known alternatives include Sider AI and Monica AI. Both are also browser-based AI assistants, but they place their emphasis differently from Clico’s persona system.
Is Clico GDPR compliant?
As a US-based provider, you should review Clico’s specific privacy and contract documentation before production use, particularly if you plan to process personal data of users in the EU or UK. A general statement on this page cannot replace that review.
